«Russian History and modernity: the relationship of times, countries and cultures»

Within the framework of the Summer School 2011 «History and modernity: the relationship of times, countries and cultures» the professors of the History Faculty of MSU offer participants to attend the following lectures:
- Byzantine heritage and the Orthodox world;
- Russian Orthodox Church in IXXX centuries;
- Russian History of XIXXX centuries (lectures and seminars on the aspects of the social and economical development of Russia, the modernization of Russian society, the development of democratic culture, of political pluralism and of parliamentarianism in Russia and in Western Europe);
- Russia and CIS countries (lectures pertaining to the issues of the modern political history of Russia in the context of the development of the relationship between Russia and its neighbour countries, the former republics of the Soviet Union (i.e. the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States) and the role of the CIS countries in the global political process: their relationship with the governments of Asia and Europe, their participation in international organizations);
- History of Russian art (these lectures offer the participants of the Summer School to acquaint themselves with the cultural heritage of the Russian people, with Russian iconography and architecture, with the Russian art of the XXth century, and with history of Russian cinematography).
Participant profile: Students and postgraduate students with an intermediate level of Russian language, and with a strong interest in modern historical studies and Russian culture.
Program language: Russian.
Academic program contents: 32 academic hours per week, which include:
- Russian language lessons (Intermediate and Advanced level),
- the above mentioned lectures and seminars,
- conferences and discussions.
Teachers: the lectures and seminars are read and conducted by history professors of Moscow State University and doctors of history.
Cultural and extracurricular program:
- guided tours of the museums of Moscow,
- trips and excursions in the vicinities of Moscow.
Program size: max. 20 participants.
Program fee: $1400.
The program fee includes:
- registration fee
- Russian language lessons
- lectures and seminars
- information package (course materials)
- entrance fee to the museums
- guided tours in the museums of Moscow and excursions.
Accommodations: there are available accommodations in the dormitory of Moscow State University. The accommodation fee is $150 per month.
