Russian Industrial Enterprises: Adaptation to Demand in the Background of Transformation Crisis,
in: Ekonomicheskaja istorija. Ezhegodnik (Economic Hystory. Yearbook). 2001, Moscow: ROSSPEN, 2002, p.510-525.
Summary
A differentiation analysis of industrial enterprises by their standing is presented, based on a single aspect in their performance, namely, the demand for their output, as a major factor of their financial soundness. Although this narrow approach simplifies the real state of affairs, it seems to be quite justified in the context of a rapid and uneven decrease in inventory demand against the background of an ongoing economic crisis. The database of the Russian Economic Barometer (REB), a long-term research program carried out by the Center for the Study of Transitional Economy at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations, Russian Academy of Sciences, offers a unique opportunity for making this kind of analysis.
